Allegany County has been taking steps of frugality with the budget they are working with. Funding cuts to outside agencies have been part of the plan for FY2025, as well as looking at other county programs that could be pared back. During the State of the County meeting at Allegany College, County Administrator Jason Bennett said that staffing is also experiencing a budget freeze, with positions going unfilled…
“We’ve frozen positions in the county. We eliminated any open positions we had as we went through the budget process as a cost-saving measure. And as we move through the year, the first 20 employees that leave county service – we’re going to freeze those positions and not refill for now. That creates difficulties for us, frankly, in some places but it was kind of a necessary move for now.”
