County Makes Staff Layoffs Due To Budget Challenge

August 10th, 2024 by WCBC Radio

The Allegany County Commissioners announced Friday that  six Emergency Medical Services crewmembers would be laid off in their ongoing attempts to close a two million dollar budget shortfall.  Other changes announced include shift changes at two stations and updates to staffing procedures.  County Administrator Jason Bennett told WCBC News the layoffs were a last resort and hopes further staff cuts will not be necessary…

The union for EMS employees issued a statement Friday saying they strongly oppose the decision and are calling on the county commissioners to revisit the measures being taken and find a solution that protects both EMS professionals and their communities.
