Allegany County now has an official Arts Agency. The county commissioners adopted a resolution that gives the Allegany Arts Council the official designation. Since 1975, the council has served as an umbrella organization for the arts in Allegany County, recently moving to a new gallery location on Baltimore Street from Centre Street in downtown Cumberland. Julie Westendorff, Arts Council Executive Director, addressed the commissioners asking them to adopt the resolution and discussed some council programs…
“In addition to our operation of a year-round professional gallery, we also develop programs that promote arts engagement and awareness, including our “young at art” program which caters to never before artists 55 and older, our arts in schools program which last year reached every third, fourth, and fifth grade student in Allegany County.”
