County Commissioners Hear Concerns Over Ambulance Service

December 20th, 2024 by WCBC Radio

The Allegany County Commissioners heard Thursday from several area residents about the lack of ambulance service in the Georges Creek area. The service ended earlier this year due to lack of volunteers and the county recently agreed to take over.  Residents questioned the county’s delay in restoring service.  Speakers included the Administrator for the Town of Midland, Craig Alexander, which also relies on the ambulance…

“It’s only a matter of time where a name and a face will be able to be put to the delay in treatment because the ambulance is not housed in Lonaconing. But at some point, somebody will die because there was no ambulance to run the call out of Lonaconing.”

Lonaconing Mayor Jack Coburn urged the commissioners to pull out the stops and move forward quickly…

“The ground’s laid. Just get in there and get the repairs – we need to get up and running. People’s lives are at stake. Do you realize this is the first time in 47 years in the winter that we will not have an ambulance service in town?”

Commissioner Creade Brodie reassured those attending the meeting that action will be taken to get the ambulance reinstated…

“It is going to get resolved. This ain’t one of them things we can say “we can’t, or “we’re gonna have to,” I just wish I had a date for you.”
