A tougher law to address animals running at large without their owners was passed at the most recent Allegany County Commissioners meeting.
A public hearing was held and there being no testimony, the commissioners passed the amendment to the Code Home Rule. County Attorney Lee Beeman said that Animal Control has been getting an increasing number of calls for animals, particularly dogs, running free, some being aggressive towards people and other animals…
“Primarily what this act is looking to do is to establish a procedure for Animal Control to forfeit animals that are habitually running at large, or habitually causing property damage, or habitually attacking people or other animals.”
