County Adopts Hazard Mitigation Plan

Local jurisdictions are required to develop and submit Hazard Mitigation Plans which prevent or reduce the loss of life and injury through methods to mitigate damage from various hazards.  Through grant funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Allegany County developed its 2024 plan.  It was presented and approved at Thursday’s County Commissioner meeting.  Emergency Management Chief Carrie Hughes says the plan identifies hazards the county may encounter in the coming year as well as action plans around those hazards…

   

"Identify hazards for the 2024 hazard mitigation plan update our floods, winter storms, wildfires hazmat transportation, emerging infectious diseases are all listed  as the high rank. Medium to high rank or severe weather and tornadoes. Our medium rank are excessive heat, soil movement, railway accidents and damn failures."
