United Way of Mineral County will be hosting the second annual cornhole tournament on Saturday, April 13. The tournament is a fundraising event for the United Way which supports programs, area nonprofits and schools through year round funding. Melissa Clark, United Way of Mineral County Advisory Committee Chair explains that funds raised from the event will be distributed to programs in Mineral County, that address the organizations three pillars of focus; health, education and financial stability.
While the United Way holds an annual fundraising campaign and receives occasional grants, events like the Cornhole tournament keep those vital programs alive at a time when they are needed most. Nonprofit organizations currently benefitting from the United Way in Mineral County through impact funding include Catholic Charities; Mineral County Family Resource Network – Energy Express and the CASA Program; the Piedmont Library and Tri-Towns After School Program.
In addition to impact funding, Live United grants are also available for nonprofit organizations and schools. Live United grants are a mechanism for responsiveness to community needs, and to potentially reach all corners of the United Way’s footprint. Live United grant opportunities exist on a quarterly basis.
