The Allegany County Commissioners approved the takeover of the Georges Creek Ambulance Service last Thursday, but it is only further complicating the issues with EMS coverage for the county. The county and the union have not developed any answers over closing the budget deficit that has now forced the layoff of six EMS personnel. Union President Steve Corioni spoke at the Commissioner’s meeting, saying that he will make sure that any delays in service caused by the actions of the commissioners are made public…
“I think you still have a chance to fix it before it’s too late. I think there’s an area going that this is cuts that aren’t necessary and if it does result in bad things, I’m going to be the bad guy. I’m going to make sure the public knows about it because the public needs to know. They have a right to know. We start seeing times where its taking ambulances 15, 20, 30, 40, 50, an hour to get places, I’m going to make sure the public knows about it.”
