Among expenditures approved this week by the Maryland Board of Public Works was a $5.4 million dollar assessment to the Internal Revenue Service. The IRS had audited activities performed by state agencies during the 2020 tax year and found errors with tax withholdings and deferred compensation plans. Comptroller Brooke Lierman said her office was working closely with the IRS for training in the areas affected…
“The Office of the Comptroller and other state agencies are working to resolve the underpayment with the IRS that occurred under the previous Administration. Governor Moore, Treasurer Davis, Lieutenant Governor Miller, and I are committed to transparency in government. And so, I wanted to make sure that people understand what this is, where it came from, and how we are handling it.”
