With spring clean up time and the start of the gardening season, for the convenience of Allegany County residents, the Allegany County Compost Site will start the spring and summer hours of operation on April 6, the first Wednesday in April. The compost site will be open five days per week, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to
6:00 p.m.
NOTE: The remaining days of compost site operation under the winter schedule will be Saturday, April 2, and Tuesday, April 5, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Allegany County Government operates a supervised compost site for Allegany County residents and businesses at 11700 PPG Road in the North Branch Industrial Park, off of MD Route 51 South.
There is free drop off of accepted items. There is free pick up of composted mulch.
Grass, leaves, brush, tree and tree limbs four inches or less in diameter, Christmas trees, and other fresh holiday greenery free of artificial decorations of any type are accepted.
These items are not accepted: stumps, roots, trees and tree limbs more than four inches in diameter, rubble, demolition material, lumber, pallets, railroad ties, and all other items not listed as ‘accepted.’
