On Thursday, December 19th, 2024, officers with the Cumberland Police Department were flagged down by a subject in the 600 block of Columbia Ave. The subject advised they had located their 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt which they had reported stolen on December 17th, from their residence in the 400 block of Oldtown Rd. Officers confirmed that the vehicle was stolen and began to investigate the matter. Officers contacted a witness who advised they had seen a female subject park the vehicle. The witness advised the female stated the car was out of gas and she was going to return shortly. At this time, the vehicle was towed from the scene for additional processing. While the vehicle was being towed, a female subject approached officers and asked why her car was being towed. The female then advised that the car was hers and she had run out of gas. The female, identified as Kimberly Dawn Hughes, 48, of Cumberland MD, was also found to be in possession of the key to the vehicle. As a result, Hughes was placed under arrest and transported to Police Headquarters. She was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an Initial Appearance where she was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. She is currently being held $1,500 bond.
