Senate Bill 398, introduced by Senator Mike McKay, seeks to create a schedule of automated expungement for certain misdemeanors. McKay says that convictions for minor law infractions prevent many from getting jobs and housing since they stay on a person’s record. The Clean Slate Bill would have most minor convictions removed after three years. Mark Woodard of the Job Opportunity Task Force testified that the bill helps people move forward…
“One of most important reasons is so they can get on with their life, get a job, contribute to their employer, be part of the work force, be taxpayers, and be making a contribution again in their life.”
