With more groups wanting to plan events in the reimagined downtown Cumberland area, logistics has become latest buzzword. Issues surrounding a proposed parade and car show have led the city to discussions about events and what the Downtown Development Commission’s role should be. Mayor Ray Morriss said it is taking a new look at an old area…
“This is all new to a great extent as so far as dealing with an open street now versus a mall so let’s work our way through developing the process the best way we can but let’s them handle that as the organization of what they’re going to put in.”
City Administrator Jeff Silka said city staffers are working on a proposed policy to present to council…
“What we do is evaluate the impact of every event, not for content but for logistics. I think one thing we’re looking at and actually we talked about it today in our meeting is maybe coming up with a city parade route and then costing out what that parade route costs to close. Then if it costs $3,000 then it would be a $3,000 parade permit.”
