City Plans Annual Leaf Collection

October 16th, 2024 by WCBC Radio

The City of Cumberland will begin its annual leaf collection on Monday, November 4th. The Street Maintenance Division of Public Works will be handling the collection as in years past.

Residents in the area scheduled for pickup during a particular week should rake their leaves prior to the collection dates below. Leaves should be raked into piles to the edge of the sidewalk adjacent to the street, but not into the street, to avoid clogging the storm sewer collection basins. The City’s leaf collection machine will collect leaves only and is not intended to pick up branches and other yard debris. Residents are encouraged to park their vehicles in a manner that does not block access to the leaf piles.

The City plans on collecting leaves on each street only once, residents who do not have their leaves raked in the proper manner at the time of collection will have to dispose of them another way. Residents are ENCOURAGED to bag leaves and place them at the curb on their regular trash days. Burgmeier Hauling will collect up to 8 bags of trash per pickup, Including leaves

This year, a two-week scheduled return period will occur (See schedule for dates). During these weeks, residents should call or email the contacts below to ensure leaves are collected when crews are in your area. These dates should not be used as an alternative to your regularly scheduled pickup. No returns will be guaranteed after this time frame!
