On August 4th, 2021, The Cumberland City Police responded to a business in the 400 block of Henderson Ave for the report of an assault. Upon arrival, officers located multiple subjects with physical injuries, some of which required medical attention. Victims of the assault advised that a male subject inside the establishment was seen “showing off” a handgun to others inside. The male was then ordered to leave the business by employees. While attempting to get the male to leave the property, a physical altercation ensued between several individuals. They further advised that the suspect then drew the weapon, pointing it at multiple victims. The suspect was able to be disarmed by the victims and the handgun was thrown into a nearby storm drain. The firearm was able to be located by officers on scene. Contact was then made with the suspect, Javon Brewer, 40, of Cumberland MD. Brewer was then advised he was under arrest. At this time, Brewer then attempted to flee from officers on foot. Officers were able to apprehend him after a short foot pursuit.
