Child Abuse Arrest

     On Friday, April 4th, 2025, the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 500 block of Columbia St for the report of an assault on a juvenile. Upon arrival on scene, officers were directed to a male suspect who had allegedly assaulted a 7-year-old child. The male was actively yelling and acting in a disorderly manner. The male refused to cease his disruptive behavior while officers were investigating the matter, which led to him being detained. Officers then spoke to witnesses of the incident. It was learned that the male subject had been watching the child and was seen grabbing and punching the child. As a result of the investigation, Montay Dayshawn McMillan, 30, of Cumberland MD, was placed under arrest.  He was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an Initial Appearance where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. He is currently being held on a temporary commitment.

On August 7th, 2024, at approximately 1:34 a.m. the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 700 block of Baker Street for the initial report of an assault. Officers made contact with a juvenile victim and another witness, who advised that Liane Marie Walsh had assaulted the juvenile by pushing and kicking them. Officers were able to observe injuries to the juvenile that corroborated the account of the incident. Upon further investigation, it was learned that another juvenile had been left unattended and unable to care for themselves, while in custody of Walsh. Walsh was subsequently placed under arrest, and transported to central booking where she is currently awaiting a bond review.
