This weekend, the Heritage Days festival includes free tours by the Cumberland Historic Cemetery Organization of Saints Peter and Paul and Rose Hill Cemeteries located on Fayette Street. Walking tours take place Saturday and Sunday at Noon and 3pm. CHCO President Ed Taylor, Jr. talked to WCBC about a monument recently erected for a World War II soldier killed on D-Day. Monument we put up three years ago is Lieutenant Robert Matthias. The first in US history to be killed in the battle of D-Day on June 6, 1944. At 2 am, he was in a plane with his men, they were flying over, they were going to paratroop out, German shrapnel was shot up, he was killed as he stood in the doorway. And as he was dying, he was still giving orders to his men.
