The Cumberland Economic Development Corporation, the Downtown Development Commission and the city police department have teamed up in an effort to secure a grant that could pay for a new state of the art security camera system. The surveillance cameras would be strategically placed on the downtown mall and several of the alleys that run behind businesses. CEDC executive director Matt Miller said that a $100,000 grant request has been submitted to the Maryland Housing and Community Development Department.
