At least one bridge will be back open to traffic in Cumberland come this Friday. The Cas Taylor Memorial Bridge, a-k-a the Baltimore Street Bridge, should be ready for traffic by the end of the week. Cumberland Mayor Ray Morriss said he and the city’s engineer have looked over the bridge project and the opening is a go. “August the 30th is the scheduled date. Bobby Smith and I talked about that last week. When all the paving and everything got done and it looks it looks like it will probably be next week or next Friday, we will open it up.”
The Mayor said that two of the three remaining bridges that have been closed or partially open will now get their turn to be replaced. “Although very frustrating the Cumberland and Fayette Street bridges will be rebuilt within the next few years. We will do Cumberland first, keep Fayette Street open with the one lane until Cumberland Street is done and then we will begin the construction on Fayette Street.”
