Bonita Austin was the former chair of the Carver Community Center years ago when efforts first started to get the Frederick Street building renovated to offer services to community members. Now with an injection of funding coming from Congress through David Trone and the 2024 Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development spending package, plans are on again to restore the building and offer workforce and enrichment programs for the community. Austin talked to WCBC and said the need for community assistance is great…
“It means that we can do a lot to help some of the people in the community that have needs. There’s so many needs in this community. As far as recreational activities, they need it. Help with mental health. There’s all kinds of needs.”
