California recently passed a bill that would end the sale of all petroleum-based cars by the year 2035. But under the federal Clean Air Act, not only does California set car emissions recommendations for itself, but their proposals also apply to several other states including Maryland. Lt Governor Boyd Rutherford said Maryland will ultimately decide on taking on California's emissions standards, but federal law could change by then.
