For years, shoppers downtown have had a visual memory of the Peoples Drug Store sign outlined on the wall at the corner of Baltimore and North Centre Streets. Now, the owner of the property, Jim Weir of Awesome Gifts and Collectibles would like to update the outside of this building with murals by local artist Elijah Thane…

   

“I’d like to do something to change that. I have a young man that’s done a lot of murals and stuff down here that I’d like to see be able to do some work there for me. However, not sure the city is going to allow him to do so.”

Weir’s request comes before the Historic Preservation and Arts Commissions this evening, but preliminary remarks from the HPC say the designs overwhelm the streetscape.
