The drought watch the Maryland Department of Environment declared earlier this month has cautioned large parts of the state to reduce their water usage.
The Office of State Fire Marshal is also reminding Marylanders of safety requirements when burning outdoors. Master Deputy State Fire Marshal Oliver Alkire says if open-air burning is a must, follow established guildelines and be attentive during and after the fire…
"If you do have to do such don't burn on windy days have hand tools and a ready supply of water on site and of course you never want to leave a fire unattended. Clear the area around the site a minimum of 10 ft and then burn as a safe distance from your home, shed or other structures as far as way as possible and of course never ever use gasoline. Those fumes can't ignite and it cause serious injury and sometimes even death."
