National builder D.R. Horton is continuing the behind the scenes work needed to develop the land where Allegany High School once stood into market-rate housing. While there has been no public announcements about progress, many have been led to believe Horton was backing out of the project. Allegany County Commissioner Bill Atkinson says that is not the case and the project is progressing…
“That is not correct. We are in the final stages of working between their attorney and the county’s attorney on a development agreement and we’re waiting to get those issues ironed out. And then once we sign that, we have a conceptual plan that they have done. The engineer and design of the infrastructure is underway right now.”
Atkinson says the county is taking time with the agreement to make sure all parties are on the same page. Around 75 units are planned for the area, including 43 single-family homes along with duplexes and condominiums…
“It’s been a process of getting this development agreement that both parties can agree to and we’re into the final stages of that. We hope to have everything out by, probably the end of this month.”
