House Minority Leader Jason Buckel clarified for WCBC’s listeners the question of whether Allegany County government could do anything to address the violence and bullying happening in the county schools. While the school system gets a large amount of their funding form the county, the county does not really have a say in the polices set forth by the state board of education. Buckel says the local board should be able to do some things…
“It’s not Dave Caporale, Creade Brodie, and Bill Atkinson passing a bill. They don’t have any control over the board of education. The board of education has control over local school disciplinary policies as long as long as they don’t conflict with state law. So my understanding is they can pass whatever disciplinary or implement whatever disciplinary policy they want as long as they don’t interfere with state law.”
