Buckel Questions Chief of Staff On Blueprint Options

February 21st, 2025 by WCBC Radio

A joint hearing this week on Governor Moore’s plans to make adjustments to the Blueprint for Education made it clear that help is needed for continued funding.  Delegate Jason Buckel discussed with Moore’s Chief of Staff Fagan Harris what the administrations wants to do…

“All of the taxes that we’ve dedicated and allocated to the Blueprint fund are not going to pay long-term for the cost of this program. I believe you said that the Governor is willing to create a new dedicated revenue stream to prop up or pay for the long-term costs of the Blueprint fund. What is that? Fagan:  I do not have a specific funding source in mind other than the willingness for the Governor to have the conversation with this body about what funding sources would make sense.”

Delegate Buckel said that at this point, the only way to keep the funding levels up will bring more burden to Marylanders…

“If we want to pay for this program the way that it’s configured, both previously and with the bill that you have before us today with the alterations to it some of which I think make sense, we’re going to have to raise taxes. We’re going to have to create significant new revenues unless we have massive economic growth.”
