The Maryland Department of Agriculture say that six poultry farms on Maryland’s Eastern Shore have been affected by Avian Flu. Nine commercial operations across Maryland, Delaware, and Virginia have now confirmed presence of bird flu in their flocks. Dr. Alok Patel, ABC News Medical Contributor, says there is a big reason to track the flu’s progression…
“Even though human cases are low, it’s because of the potential for bird flu to mutate and be able to jump over and cause more widespread human infection. That’s what the big concern is especially given the fact throughout history so many infectious disease outbreaks are thought to have originated in animals.”
