On Sunday, June 23, 2024 at approximately 2:26 AM, an officer of the Cumberland Police Department was on patrol in the area of Pershing Street and S. Mechanic Street when he observed a large crowd that had formed outside of a business. As the officer approached the crowd, he heard someone yell for help and observed a female fall to the ground. A male suspect then began fleeing the scene on foot. The officer caught up to the suspect and identified him as Braydien McKenize. It was learned that McKenzie had assaulted a female subject. The victim had sustained injuries. McKenzie was placed under arrest and placed inside of a police cruiser. There was still a large crowd gathered and people arguing. Two subjects still causing a disturbance were identified as Kelsey Jenkins and Denarra Middleton. Jenkins and Middleton were warned by police multiple times to stop creating a disturbance, but refused to listen to the officers. They were placed under arrest and later released on criminal citations pending trial. McKenzie was later seen by a District Court Commissioner and remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center on a $5,000 bond.
