On Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at approximately 2:00 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business on Queen City Drive for a subject refusing to leave and arguing with staff members. Officers contacted the subject and identified him as Gary Bookheimer. Bookheimer refused to leave the business after being told numerous times by employees and police. At this time, officers proceeded to arrest Bookheimer. Bookheimer resisted arrest and assaulted the officers resulting in an injury to one of the officers. Police were eventually able to take Bookheimer into custody. Bookheimer was found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine and CDS paraphernalia. He was later seen by a District Court Commissioner and remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center on a $2,000 bond.

On Saturday, December 24, 2022 at approximately 4:16 AM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business on Virginia Avenue for a check on well-being. Upon arrival, police contacted the staff who reported that there was a male subject inside the store currently laying on the floor. Officers contacted the subject who was intoxicated and very uncooperative. The subject was later identified as Stephon Morris. Morris began causing a disturbance and refused to listen to officers. Morris then assaulted one of the officers. At this time, officers attempted to arrest Morris and he resisted, trying to pull away from officers’ control. Police were eventually able to place Morris into hand restraints and take him into custody. As officers were placing Morris into a police cruiser for transport, Morris assaulted the officer once again. No injuries were sustained as a result of the assault. Morris was transported to Central Booking. He was later seen by a District Court Commissioner and remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center without bond.
