The Allegany County Animal Shelter is one of many shelters nationwide experiencing capacity concerns. Though still taking animals, right now the shelter is doing so on a case-by-case basis. The shelter’s executive director, Tina Rosa, says volunteers are welcome to help walk dogs, get them out of the shelter environment for a break as part of the Hounds Around Town program, or interact with the cats on-site as well…
“The more volunteers we can get, the better we’re able to relieve stress for the animals that are here. We could have dog walkers that come out each day and take the dogs out. You can walk them here on the shelter property. You can take them out as part of Hounds Around Town. You can spend time with the cats in the different adoption rooms and free-roaming areas socializing and grooming and things like that to help socialize the cats.”
