America’s 911 Ride, sponsored by America’s 911 Foundation, is expected to come through Cumberland on Friday, August 16th.
Between 8:30 am and 9:15 am, 270 motorcyclists will come make their 24th memorial trek through the Narrows and into Cumberland before heading to Rocky Gap via Frederick Street. America’s 911 Foundation honors those lost in the September 11, 2001 terror attacks. Board Member Roger Flick says the ride sponsors scholarships for the children of first responders or first responders who are a sophomore or junior in college.
"We do tend to cause a little traffic congestion on the highway. All that we ask is when you're setting for 5 or 10 minutes in that traffic backup that we've caused, take that time to reflect on your life and what you have to be thankful for because there was a lot of people that had their lives ruined that day, their lives and their family's ruined so, say a prayer for them and think about why we are doing this."
