A second blow in as many weeks has hit West Virginia’s economy. Allegheny Wood Products with locations including Kingwood, Moorefield, and Petersburg, abruptly closed last Friday, leaving up to 900 people out of work. Over 500 were regular employees of the hardwood company while others were contractors. AWP had been trying to sell the company in recent months. Last week, the Cleveland Cliffs Tin plant in Weirton closed, leaving almost 1000 people unemployed.
