For several years now there have been complaints made by some segments of the community about alleged large numbers of illegal immigrants setting up residence at Rocky Gap State Park. It is a subject that was broached by an elderly woman speaking at Thursday’s regular meeting of the Allegany County Commissioners. Some research revealed that it is true that state parks across Maryland receive an influx of Hispanic people during the summer- with one report stating that Hispanics are the fastest-growing segment of Maryland park patrons. While the woman addressing the county officials was there primarily to complain about taxes, she noted on several ocaissions that Allegany County’s population has dropped substantially in the past ten years.
