A cut in federal transportation funding means changes have to be made to Allegany Transit. Wednesday afternoon, Adam Patterson Director of Public Works for Allegany County hosted the first public hearing at the LaVale Library regarding proposed transit line modifications …
“We’re working at the staff level now to be able to have a public hearing to be able to get comments back, to then massage this information and then hopefully come back with another recommendation. I have to—we have to as a team then be able to present this to the County Commissioners once we reach a point where we’re going to be happy with what we’re going to propose.”
A citizen attending the meeting, Susan Spears, talked about the effects of the proposed cuts…
“You’re taking the ability of the lowest class—not the lowest class but the most need-it class, I guess you could say. You are taking their ability to survive, their ability to make it.”
