Allegany County’s median income is being outpaced by neighboring Pennsylvania and West Virginia counties, according to the latest data from the Appalachian Regional Commission.
ARC’s Chartbook looks at data from the 2018-2022 American Community Survey. Within the 13 Appalachian states, the median income is $61,688. Mineral County shows a median income of $64,728, Bedford County $58,337 and Allegany County is at $55,248.
Data also shows that 15.9% of Allegany County residents are living in poverty with an income of less than $26,000 versus the Appalachian region percentage of 14.3%.
