Allegany County Reports One New COVID Case, Zero Deaths

March 4th, 2021 by WCBC Radio

The Allegany County Health Department reports that 10,308 Allegany County residents have received at least their first dose of vaccine against COVID-19 (14.6% of the population), with 7,206 of those individuals now fully vaccinated with their second dose (10.2% of the population).  By comparison, the state reported that 14.9% of all Marylanders had received at least their first dose of vaccine, with 8.2% now fully vaccinated.

In a press conference on Tuesday, Governor Larry Hogan announced that the state would be receiving an initial allocation of 49,000 doses of the newly approved Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine (also known as the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine).  The Janssen vaccine, unlike the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, requires only one dose.  The Governor stated that after this initial disbursement the state will not be receiving additional doses of the Janssen vaccine for two weeks while manufacturers replenish their stock for shipment.  Allegany County received its first supply of the new vaccine on Tuesday.

Health officials remind the public that, even if you have been vaccinated, it is still vitally important to continue to wear a mask when around others who don’t live with you, maintain at least six feet social distancing, wash your hands, and clean and sanitize high-touch surfaces.

As stated by the CDC (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/keythingstoknow.html), “scientists are still learning how well vaccines prevent you from spreading the virus that causes COVID-19 to others, even if you do not get sick…  For this reason, even after vaccination, we need to continue using all the tools available to help stop this pandemic as we learn more about how COVID-19 vaccines work in real-world conditions.”
