On Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at 7 p.m. at Fort Hill High School, Allegany County Public Schools will present its first countywide honors choral festival since 2019. It will feature outstanding middle and high school singers coming together for two brief, yet unforgettable, concerts in one evening.
First, the Middle School All-County Chorus will be conducted by Michelle Rafter, a Washington County choral educator who has conducted Allegany County students several times in her career. Her concert will consist of storied and varied choral repertoire, including a premier of a middle school arrangement of “Bring a Song,” by Christopher Fox.
The Senior High Chorus will be conducted by Dr. Scott Rieker, who is the director of choral activities at Frostburg State University. During Scott’s years at Frostburg, he has aided the ACPS music staff, led several professional development sessions, and dutifully taught ACPS youngsters at an annual tenor/bass sing, of which he is the sole organizer. Due to the pandemic and also to his busy schedule as a sought-after conductor, this is Dr. Rieker’s first time conducting All-County Chorus in Allegany County Public Schools.
The concert will last approximately one hour, and it is free and open to the public.
