The Western Maryland Area Health Education Center has received $4.5 million in state grants to combat substance use disorder and heart disease in parts of Allegany and Garrett Counties. The funds will be used to lead an effort to promote healthy living, including planning health fairs, regular community health worker visits to remote parts of the region and efforts to improve access to food and transportation.
