AES Warrior Run was in the news again on Thursday in a Baltimore Sun article. AES had announced earlier this year that the plant would cease burning coal at the end of May, 2024. According to the article, AES is still evaluating other power generation options for the Allegany County site. Warrior Run is the last plant in the state to share an end date for its coal operations. AES had reached a deal in the spring with Potomac Edison to end the power purchase agreement between the companies earlier than its 2030 expiration.
