Allegany College of Maryland’s new Registered Apprenticeship Program is offering local food and hospitality workers the opportunity to earn a degree while continuing to work full time. The goal is to have businesses send employees to ACM where they can advance their education, benefiting themselves and their employer. Courtney Love, Apprenticeship Coordinator says the program is in a trial run right now with an employee at UPMC Western Maryland and will be adding other businesses soon…
“So at the end of the program, he will not only have more experience in the field, more knowledge about the field but then he will also have a degree that will allow him to come into a managerial position. So, they’re looking to retain him long-term and to provide him with more benefits. So if he can reach a supervisor or manager role, he can have more benefits and longevity in his career.”
