Today, Congressman David Trone (MD-06), officially filed his Certificate of Candidacy for the United States Senate at the State Board of Elections in Annapolis. Trone’s filing comes as his campaign continues to capture momentum across the state. Yesterday, his campaign released new polling data showing that he maintains a double-digit lead statewide and in geographic areas critical to a successful campaign. He is endorsed by more than 140 elected officials and some of the state’s most powerful unions, including the Maryland State Education Association.
Statement from David Trone, Democratic candidate for the United States Senate:
“I’m thrilled to take this important step in my campaign — not for myself, but for the people of Maryland. Voters have been very clear: they want a disruptor in the Senate. Someone who will put people over politics, ignore the calls of special interests and never waver from their progressive values.
"We all know that Washington has been broken for far too long. Special interests have used PACs and lobbyists to keep the same career politicians in office cycle after cycle, stopping progress in its tracks. And forcing millions of Americans to live in the shadows.
"In the Senate, I’ll fight to change that. I’ve devoted my time in public service to a mission: to end fentanyl deaths in America, to give our educators and students the investments in education that they deserve, to fix a deeply broken criminal justice system poisoned by systemic racism, and to bring true economic justice to every community.
"Maryland voters know who I am and where I stand. That’s why we’ve established a commanding lead in this race and why we’ll continue to travel across the state sharing our message and hearing from the people we’ll represent.”
