With only one day left on the Supreme Court’s schedule to release opinions in this year’s term, Americans are still waiting for a ruling on the intensely watched case that is expected to overturn the landmark Roe v. Wade abortion ruling. In Maryland, the legislature this spring passed a bill expanding the definition of providers qualified to perform an abortion, establishing an abortion training program funded by the state, and requiring most insurance companies to cover the cost of an abortion. Although Maryland Governor Larry Hogan vetoed the bill, the legislature overrode that veto. As a Republican in a deeply Democrat state, Hogan has struck a delicate balance on the issue.
