The area’s annual CROP Walk will be taking place on Sunday, October 13 along the Great Allegheny Passage. CROP is an acronym for Christians Relating To Other People and also Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty. Sandy Cowan, one of the local coordinators for the walk, said this is the 53rd year of fundraising for area food banks. It has went through a few changes in distance over the years…
“The walk started back in 1972 so this is the 53rd annual walk. And when it started way back then for quite a while, it was about 25-26 miles that we walked throughout the county and everything. It’s been reduced to five miles when we used to walk Canal Place down to Wiley Ford and back, and now we’ve cut it even shorter to three.”
