Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred this morning in Garrett County.
The deceased is identified as Brandy Jo McKenzie, 37, of Oakland, Maryland. McKenzie was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency medical services personnel. McKenzie was the driver and the sole occupant of the Ford Taurus involved in the crash. McKenzie’s body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.
The sole occupant of the Ram 1500 involved in the crash, identified as a 32-year-old male, refused medical treatment on the scene.
Shortly before 10 a.m., troopers from the Maryland State Police McHenry Barrack responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash with fire in the area of MD Route 495 and Dung Hill Road in Grantsville, Maryland. The preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of a Ford Taurus traveling north on MD Route 495, for unknown reasons, entered the southbound lane after exiting a right-hand curve and struck a Ram 1500. The crash caused the Taurus to catch fire, which spread to the front of the Ram. According to investigators, the driver of the Taurus, the deceased victim, was pulled out of the car before it was fully engulfed in flames.
MD Route 495 was closed in both directions for more than two hours. Personnel from the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration responded to the scene to assist with road closures. Personnel from the Natural Resources Police also responded to the scene.
