The Allegany County Health Department reported 24 new COVID cases in Allegany County and three additional deaths, bringing the county’s cumulative case count to 6,143 with 180 fatalities. The current case rate in Allegany County is 25.97 cases per 100,000 population, while Maryland’s state average is currently 32.41 cases per 100,000 population. Allegany’s positivity rate is at 6.15%, while the statewide average is 5.94%.
The Allegany County Health Department continues with vaccinations for those individuals in the state’s priority group 1B, with emphasis on individuals age 75 and older. K-12 educational staff are also receiving vaccinations as part of Phase 1B. At this time, the Allegany County Health Department has not started vaccinating individuals 65 and older (Phase 1C). Health officials stated that the timeframe for that transition is dependent upon how quickly more vaccine becomes available to complete 1B.
