Congressman David Trone a Democrat visited Western Maryland over the weekend delivering big checks for projects throughout the region. Trone secured over 4 million dollars in federal community project funding during fiscal year 2024. Cumberland Mayor and City Council were on hand for the presentation of a 1 million dollar check for the Carver Center on Frederick Street to begin renovations to the facility. Congressman Trone speaking with WCBC News says it was the community and local government that submitted a great grant application…
"We're really excited to be able to deliver this Million Dollar check to a town that's put together a great grant proposal so, these are community project funding so, it's the community saying what they need the members of the community, the city council, the mayor all coming together and say here's what we want to have happened here. Canal Place, the bridges all through Allegany County we've been trying to bring home some dollars that the community wants versus having some bureaucrat, a bureaucratic in Washington trying to figure it out cuz that's a bad formula."
Cumberland Mayor Ray Morris says this show's a bright future for the Carver Center…
"I think it really shows what people can accomplish when they're working together. I think it shows a bright future for the Carver Center really putting this money to good use to create a great community center for the youth of Cumberland."
