On Thursday, January 16th, 2025, the Cumberland Police Department responded to a Race St residence for the report of an assault. Once on scene, officers contacted the victim and a witness of the alleged assault. Officers were advised that an argument began inside the home in reference to household property left outside the home. It was then alleged that the suspect grabbed the victim by the head and dragged them to the floor, causing injuries to the leg, arm, and hand. The witness was able to separate the subjects and the suspect then left the residence on foot. Officers then conducted a search of the area and located the suspect a short distance away. As a result, Quamel Hasim Bey, 52, of Cumberland MD, was placed under arrest. He was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an Initial Appearance where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. He is currently being held without bond.
