Piedmont Gets Funding for Water Source

December 24th, 2024 by WCBC Radio

The town of Piedmont is receiving $775,000 through the West Virginia Water Development Authority for a groundwater well that will serve as its primary water source. Piedmont had received water from the Verso Mill until its shutdown in 2020 and has since been purchasing its water from Westernport. Piedmont Water Commissioner Greg Harvey tells WCBC a matching grant from the West Virginia Infrastructure and Jobs Development Council will cover the $1.5 million dollar project. “The city is extremely grateful for the grant money that has been awarded to Piedmont. Hopefully, it will put our water situation to rest. We hope it moves quickly and we hope to get started soon to getting the line laid. Our well has been drilled and tested, so we are hoping to get connected as soon as possible.”
