Maryland State Senator Mike McKay said recent revenue estimates from the state show a marked decline of $478 million, adding to an already significant structural deficit facing the state in the next few years. The Senator tells WCBC News that certain projects still need to be funded somehow…
“There are going to be so many financial strains and challenges ahead. And unfortunately the commitments like the Blueprint – that is Maryland’s future education reform plan, an increase in Medicaid and child care costs. Those keep on rising and as I said, the revenues aren’t there to cover it.”
McKay said some lawmakers in Annapolis are already talking about tax increases to cover the gap…
“At a local MML meeting the House and Senate majority – the Democrats – said it looks like we’re going to be raising taxes but I’m glad to hear Governor Moore say we’re actually going to have to cut some spending as well.”
