A caller to the Dave Norman program on Wednesday was concerned that something similar to what is happening in Bel Air could happen to Cumberland’s water rate if purchased by an outside company. Currently, the city charter states that Cumberland controls the city water service. Mayor Ray Morriss said while a purchase would be possible, it is unlikely to have benefit and would have to go through a complicated process…
“You’ve got to remember it’s a charter amendment and any time in the future if a mayor and city council determined that they wanted to consider something like that, they then too could go in and change the charter also to be able to sell it.”
